WAKA POWDER HISTORY
Kava is a relaxing beverage that has been enjoyed in the South Pacific Islands for over 3,000 years. Kava promotes positive mood and tames the day to day stresses of life while also promoting physical relaxation.
Kava powder is produced from the root of the kava plant (Piper methysticum). Here are the general steps involved in the production of kava:
Cultivation
Kava plants are typically grown in tropical regions with fertile soil, such as the South Pacific islands. The plants require well-drained soil, regular rainfall, and partial shade to thrive. They also need salt water evaporation from the sea to get its full potential taste. They are propagated through stem cuttings or by replanting root sections.
Harvesting
The kava plant reaches maturity in about 3-5 years. Harvesting is usually done by uprooting the whole plant or selectively removing the mature roots. The roots contain the active compounds called kavalactones that are responsible for the desired effects.
Processing
Once the roots are harvested, they undergo processing to extract the kavalactones. The traditional method involves cleaning the roots, removing the roots of the stem then scrapping then dried out for 2-3 weeks . The root material is then ground or pounded into fine pure waka powder.
